Snake Plant Care

Sansevieria varieties

(newly reclassified as Dracaena)

Medium to bright indirect light. Will tolerate lower light.
Allow soil to dry before watering

Also known as Snake Plant, Mother-in-law-Tounge, Saint George’s Sword

There is just not enough time in the day to list all the ways that Sansevieria varieties are absolutely great plants. There are 70 or so species of them, and while they vary in shape and color, their care is across the board easy peasy.

Most Sansevieria will tolerate lower light conditions which means they are a great choice for a hallway or the interior of a room away from windows and doors. Sansevieria varieties that have more white in their coloration will do best in a brighter spot due to less chlorophyll in the leaves.

“Known as the ‘bedroom plant’, Sansevieria zeylanica gives off more oxygen at night which can aid in sounder sleep.”

Their upright, architectural shape are perfect for a minimal or modern design, but they look equally at home among layers of plants and textures. Sansevieria prefer to dry out between watering which makes them a great choice for people who travel or have a hard time keeping a regular watering schedule. Known as the “bedroom plant”, Sansevieria zeylanica gives off more oxygen at night which can aid in sounder sleep. We always love to have a few different species of Sansevieria in stock and can’t get enough of these popular plants.
